OwnershipofDr.Hunter’sApothecary,asitwasoriginallyknown,transferredthroughapprenticeshipforthemajorityitshistory,witheachretiringpharmacisthandingoverthekeysandexpertisetohisapprentice.Thecompanytookitspresentnamein1876whenthen-ownerJohnRoseCaswellbecamepartnerswithNewYorkbusinessmanWilliamMassey.
